On Friday 3rd August 2012/13th Ramadhan 1433 AH, MSI Jamaat of Essex hosted a multi faith event on the philosophy of fasting. Friends, neighbours, colleagues and acquaintances from the local community from different faiths were invited to come and share the Ramadhan atmosphere with members of MSI Jamaat of Essex.
The event commenced with the soulful recitation of the Holy Quran by Zainali Panjwani and was chaired by Dr. Sibtain Panjwani who introduced MSI Jamaat of Essex to the visitors and explained its history.
The chief guest speakers for the event were Reverend Joyce Smith of St. Clares Hospice and Brother Abdul Rauf Shokoya, presenter of Ahlul Bayt TV and lecturer at Islamic College. The Reverend expressed how the words of the Quran, being the word of God was spiritually uplifting and spoke of the commonality between the two faiths. Brother Shokoya spoke of the health, social and spiritual benefits of fasting and delved into an explanation of the various stages of fasting. His talk was followed by a brief question and answer session.
Madressa student Suhail Haji (10) also delighted and charmed the audience by sharing his experience of fasting – and feasting, together with late nights and fun with friends as part of his Ramadhan highlights.
The programme came to its conclusion with Salaat and iftar which provided yet another opportunity for the guests and community members to carry on further discussions and enjoy the sumptuous iftar.
The response from the participants of this event was overwhelmingly encouraging and Inshallah the MSI Jamaat of Essex will endevour to organise similar events in the future.
