 The Astronomical New Moon is on Sunday 9 September 2018 at 7.01pm.  The crescent cannot be seen on this day.

 The calculations for Monday 10 September 2018 are as follows:-

Sunset 7.28pm

Moonset 8.13pm

Crescent age 24 hours

Crescent altitude 6.42 degrees

Crescent elongation 14.32 degrees

Crescent is clearly visible only with optical aid, but could possibly be seen by naked eye.

Subject to confirmed reports of sighting, 1st Muharram 1440AH could be on Tuesday 11 September 2018.  The final declaration will be made following reports of sighting, if any.
